How to Enjoy our Sourdough Bread
You’ve got your delicious sourdough from Crumbs The Bakers – now what? Here are some yummy ways to enjoy it, for any time of day!
Simple & Classic
- Butter: Who doesn’t love a classic? Spread melted butter on your warm sourdough, straight out of the oven. Or enjoy it cold! For an extra zing, sprinkle some sea salt on top. You won’t regret it!
Sweet & Fruity Delights
- Fresh Jam or Jelly: Summer’s here, and it’s perfect for homemade jams! Imagine your fresh sourdough with a spread of peach, berry, or plum jam. Divine!
- Nut Butter, Banana & Blueberries: A true classic! Spread your favorite nut butter (or sunflower seed butter if you have allergies) on lightly toasted sourdough. Then, top with fresh banana slices and a handful of blueberries.
- Fig & Ricotta: For a fancy treat, toast your sourdough and top with fresh fig slices and creamy ricotta cheese. A drizzle of honey will make the fig flavor pop!
- Greek Yogurt & Fresh Berries: Start your day right! Spread some Greek yogurt on your sourdough and load it up with your favorite fresh berries. It’s healthy, fresh, and super tasty.
Savory Sensations
- Basil, Mozzarella & Tomato: If you love Caprese salad, you’ll love this! Top your sourdough with fresh basil, juicy tomato, and soft mozzarella. A drizzle of olive oil and sea salt makes it perfect. Bonus points if your basil and tomatoes are from your own garden!
- Avocado: Avocado toast is trending, and for good reason! Mash or slice avocado on your sourdough. Get creative with chilli flakes and honey for a sweet and spicy kick, or stick to classic sea salt and pepper. Either way, it’s a winner!
- Mushrooms with Caramelized Onions: Craving something warm and comforting? Sauté fresh mushrooms until golden, then caramelize sliced onions with a little sugar and water until sweet. Mix them together and pile them on your sourdough. So good!
- Hummus: This protein-packed spread is a delicious match for sourdough. Try topping your hummus with fresh sliced avocado, red pepper strips, and a dash of cayenne pepper.
- Peanut Butter / Savory Spread: Another timeless choice! Peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter) on lightly toasted sourdough is just pure comfort.
- Greek Sourdough Topping: (From Food.com) This fresh topping is amazing, especially if you have garden-fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. You’ll need dill, capers, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and sea salt too.
- Garlic & Shiitake Mushroom: Simple yet super flavourful! Sauté garlic and shiitake mushrooms with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spoon this mix onto your toasted sourdough for a delicious bite.
- Eggs: Eggs and toast – a breakfast staple that works any time of day! Enjoy your favorite style of egg (sunny-side up with butter and bacon is great!) on your fresh sourdough for an easy, delicious open-faced sandwich.
- Lox (Smoked Salmon): Who needs a bagel? Top your sourdough with creamy cream cheese, sliced smoked salmon (lox), capers, and red onions. If you’re feeling fancy, add some fresh tomato slices and a sprinkle of salt.
