What We Do —  We make the most authentic sourdough in town.

Our Sourdough Journey: From Home to Lahore’s Top Supplier

Our love affair with sourdough baking began during the quiet days of the pandemic. What started as a newfound hobby in our home kitchen quickly blossomed into a passion. We were captivated by the magic of sourdough – the ancient art of baking with a live culture, creating bread with unparalleled flavor and texture.

As we honed our skills and shared our creations with friends and family, the demand grew. Soon, our home operation expanded, driven by the desire to bring authentic, artisanal sourdough to more people. We poured our hearts into perfecting our craft, and today, we’re proud to be recognized as the top supplier of sourdough bread in Lahore.

What makes our sourdough truly special? It’s our remarkable starter — a living legacy that dates back 237 years, as of 2025. This means the beneficial bacteria in our starter have been thriving for over two centuries, cultivating a unique depth of flavor that you won’t find anywhere else. This heritage starter is the soul of our bread, giving it that distinct, tangy taste and incredible texture that our customers love.

We believe in the simple, wholesome goodness of sourdough — crafted with dedication and a deep respect for tradition. Come taste the difference that time, care, and a truly ancient starter can make.

The Journey in 2021 — The Seed of Sourdough

The year 2021 marked the humble beginnings of our sourdough adventure. Amidst the pandemic, our fascination with sourdough baking took root in our home kitchen. What started as a captivating hobby — driven by the unique process of baking with a live starter — soon had us sharing our artisanal creations with friends and family.

This initial sharing quickly revealed a growing demand, prompting us to take the first steps from a home passion to what would become Lahore’s leading sourdough supplier. It was the year our centuries-old starter truly began its new journey with us.

Our Flourishing Year — 2025 & Beyond

As we stand in 2025, it marks a significant milestone for us. From our humble beginnings, we have proudly become the top supplier of authentic sourdough bread across Lahore.

This year, our remarkable sourdough starter continues its incredible journey, celebrating 237 years of living history. This ancient, vibrant culture is the heart of our unique flavor, solidifying our position as leaders in bringing exceptional, handcrafted sourdough to your table.

About Our Bakery & My Journey

Hello, I’m Ume Ali Farhan, the owner of Crumbs The Bakers — a bakery born from a journey close to my heart.

I’m a proud graduate of Fine Arts from the University of the Punjab, and more profoundly, a blessed mother. My path took an unexpected turn when I lost my only daughter to Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). It was during this tender time — in the quiet solace of home — that our micro sourdough bakery came to life in Lahore in 2021.

With every loaf, I carry forward her memory, her warmth, and her love — the heart of everything we bake.

Why you should use Sourdough Bread?

  • No Preservatives — This means that if you don’t consume the bread within 72 hours of purchase, it should be stored in the freezer or fridge to maintain freshness.
  • Tangy Flavor — We don’t add any sugar, so our sourdough has a naturally tangy, slightly bitter taste — a true mark of authentic sourdough.
  • No Bread Improvers — Our bread is naturally fermented, allowing it to develop beautiful, organic air bubbles. These bubbles may vary in size and shape — a sign of real, handcrafted sourdough.

What is special about Sourdough

Why sourdough bread is one of the healthiest breads

  • Natural fermentation
  • More nutritious than regular bread
  • Easier to digest
  • The lactic acid in sourdough bread helps the body absorb more nutritious

No Bakers Yeast

Sourdough bread contrasts from most bread in that it contains no baker’s yeast, depending instead on a fermented “starter” of water and flour to provide lift. This moreover gives it a sour flavor and chewy surface.

Sourdough is fascinating because it’s a marriage between yeast and bacteria. There is a difference between the bread found in a typical supermarket and the yeast you find in sourdough bread. Normal bread is made of baker’s yeast or Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

The Best Sourdough in Town

What’s special about this? The process of fermentation causes the production of CO2 inside the loaf causing the loaf to fluff up and a vinegar-like by-product is produced which causes the sour taste in sourdough which we all love.

The starter is a self-sustaining fermentation of flour, water, wild yeasts, and bacteria that produce lactic and acetic acids. These bacteria are healthy and help with your digestion.
